In an effort to recognize outstanding contributions by the MACA faculty, the MACA Academic LEAD team will highlight the work of one MACA teacher for their accomplishments. Faculty members are nominated by their LEAD teacher and confirmed by the LEAD team. The goal of this program is to communicate to the MACA family some of the great things happening in our classrooms as well as to encourage our teachers in the great things they are doing.
Our first MACA Star Teacher is Ms. Amber Griffin. Ms. Griffin has been at MACA for five years teaching courses in English and Literature. She is also beginning her third year serving as the MACA English Department Head Teacher. As Department Head, Ms. Griffin has lead the secondary team of English teachers in the creation of accelerated and Honors courses from 6th through 12th grades as well as the development of English Composition, a senior-level dual enrollment course for college credit.
MACA is reaping the results of the hard work of Griffin’s team as evidenced by the excellent preparation of our graduates for college English Composition. One example of this is MACA’s 2016-17 ACT college readiness report which shows that 100% of MACA students who took the ACT last school year received scores that showed they were ready for college-level work in English Composition. This score is in comparison to only 77% of students in Maryland who showed readiness for the first college English class. MACA student college preparedness is the result of a strong MACA English program and dedicated teachers. Thank you, Ms. Griffin, for leading our English department and for preparing our students for college. You are a MACA Star Teacher and we appreciate you!
