Each year, the high school students go on a 3-day retreat a few weeks into the school year. The students get to bond with classmates, take a break from school, and most importantly, grow in their faith with Jesus.
For the 2017 retreat, we went back to Camp Calvary in Pennsylvania. This was the third time MACA held the retreat at Camp Calvary, and the students are already talking about going back! We had team competitions throughout the entire retreat, where teams were formed with members from each grade, 9th-12th. They played basketball, volleyball, gaga, bucket ball, and even tug of war in a mud pit! The students got to swim in the lake, slide down a huge water slide built into the side of the hill, play games in the pool, bounce on a water trampoline and many other free time activities at the Camp. Students performed both biblical and humorous skits to add to the competitions, and don’t forget MACA’s famous lip sync battles! Each grade performs lip syncs in a variety of categories and performs them for an audience – it is even live streamed so our friends and family back home can watch! No one wants to miss this fun event! Seniors placed first in the class competitions this year!
Most importantly, students got to hear about what it means to be “Rooted in Love,” which is MACA’s theme for the year, pulled from Paul’s prayer to the Ephesians in Ephesians 3. Students heard several messages from Pastor David Blair and walked away with action plans on how to live out what they learned during their time on the retreat.
Everyone had a great three days of worshiping the Savior, bonding with their classmates, and having good old-fashioned fun! This is definitely a highlight for our MACA high school students each year.
