NCSAA Nationals

History has been made for Mount Airy Christian Academy. The MACA varsity girls volleyball team traveled to Ohio to compete in the National Christian School Athletic Association Tournament. The team departed with an encouraging send-off as students and teachers waved pompoms and cheered while the van left campus. MACA was already extremely proud of our girls!

“I was really nervous, because we could end up doing really well in this tournament, and I wanted to play well,” reflected co-team captain, Jessie Markley. “Most importantly, I wanted to make sure we resembled Christ on the court. My prayer is always, ‘All the glory to God, win or lose, and that we would honor Him and play well.'” The team did play extremely well and went undefeated in pool play, competing against Arundel Christian of Maryland, Monclova Christian of Ohio, and Wood County Christian of West Virginia. Due to their outstanding performance and clean sweep, the girls placed in the Division 1 bracket as the number one seed. The semifinal game was against Christian Community of Ohio. Despite the tough competition and one set loss, the girls were victorious and found themselves for the first time ever in a Division 1 National Championship. MACA faced Victory Christian of Indiana in the championship game. After a hard fought match, the Lady Lions were awarded the 2016 NCSAA Girls Varsity Division 1 Second Place banner.

vballnationalsMACA is incredibly proud of the coaches and team for the way they represented Christ on and off the court. Markley shared, “Our strong suit throughout this year hasn’t even been our ability to play- it’s how we play together. That’s why this was such an amazing season and team – we work together, we talk through any issues we might have, and we want to be there supporting each other. When there’s a mutual love for each other, for the game, and especially for Christ, everything just comes together and works well.”
